First Official Cruise Night of 2009
Spring has (kinda) sprung, and that means it’s time for cruising season to finally get underway!
Despite the cold, wind, and even raindrops at one point, dozens of amazing vehicles turned out. There were the usual suspects of Camaros, ‘Cudas, and Mustangs in full force, as could be expected. But what couldn’t be expected were some of the new recruits to the cruising scene, including a relatively rare ‘58 Nomad wagon, and a Pontiac 8-door airport limo.

From this angle, the little white 2nd-gen Thunderbird almost looks like the front of the airship from recent blockbuster movie, “The Watchmen.” Click Here if you don’t know what I’m talking about (appears at 0:30 seconds)
This little black Nash featured some of the coolest new paint of the season. Not only are the True Flames incredibly realistic, but they’re sprayed over flat black. Now honestly, how often does that happen?
Here’s a trend that most people are glad to see. Now that 4-doors and wagons are considered cool, the floodgates are open, and airport limos like this 8-door Pontiac are hitting the streets. Unlike a funeral limo with 6 extended doors, these nifty things typically have 8 regular-sized doors, most of which are modified front doors built from spare parts. The main purpose was to ferry people to and from airports, so a lack of legroom and comfort just got the passengers ready for the plane. Now, if only they could figure out a way to serve bad meals out of the trunk….
The rat rod crowd is a tight bunch, amongst other things. Here, one of their members makes a quick repair to Greaser Greg’s ‘54 Monarch coupe.
This big dog was everyone’s friend at the show. Although he’s technically supposed to be on a leash (Winnipeg bylaws & etc) that would have slowed him down from meeting everyone willing to scratch behind his ears. Pictured here begging for a ride in Travis Cool’s T-bucket.
It’s only in the ’60s that a man could order a big, powerful musclecar, and have it painted purple by the factory. This “Plum Crazy” 1970 Plymouth ‘Cuda looks gorgeous in this colour, and even with the white top. Nowadays, only truckers and freelance birthday clowns can get away with this colour.
And, of course, this was also the second night that our new book, “Class of 2009″ was available to the public. It was a great chance for many people to have their first look, and see if their car made it into this first edition of the annual series.
That’s it for this week, but make sure you took the time to enjoy today’s photography from our newest staffer, Victoria Morningstar. Yes, she’s my wife, but she knows a thing or two about cameras. After all, she’s ditched better photography schools than most of us could get into (including me). If you liked what you see, stay tuned-there’s going to be more of her work as the summer progresses. Until then, check out our Facebook group for more automotive goodness. And if that’s too much reading, follow us onTwitter.com/cruisefever to catch the latest updates. Until then, keep on cruisin’!
